United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)
ESCWA comprises 12 Arab countries including the UAE. Its objectives are to encourage economic and social development and promote cooperation between the member countries; exchange knowledge on experiences, good practices and lessons learned among countries in the region; ensure interaction between Western Asia and other regions of the world; and familiarise the rest of the world with the circumstances and needs of the countries in the region.
The Role of the Ministry of Economy & Tourism
The Ministry is responsible for studying the agenda of ESCWA meetings, making observations on the topics raised, in coordination and cooperation with the ministries, authorities and local departments concerned, participating in ESCWA meetings, and following up on the implementation of its recommendations, in addition to:

Following up on the files of the specialised technical committees within the framework of the ESCWA programme and coordinating with the authorities concerned in the UAE.

Coordinating and supervising the ESCWA technical cooperation programme with the authorities concerned in the UAE.

Following up on the implementation of the decisions of the ESCWA ministerial and technical committees’ meetings.
